Signs and Symptoms of Labor
For our obstetrical patients.
Please call us immediately if any of the following occur:
- Regular contractions occurring 3-5 minutes apart, lasting 30-45 seconds each. If this is your first baby, please call when the contractions reach the regularity of every 3-5 minutes over 2 hours. If this is your second or more baby, please call when the contractions are getting stronger, occurring 5 minutes apart for 1 hour.
- Any heavy bleeding which is more than bloody mucous or light colored spotting at any time in your pregnancy.
- If your membranes rupture, i.e. "water breaks" and there is continuous leakage of fluid of any color or a gush of fluid from the vagina.
- Persistent, severe abdominal pain.
